Brackets, Schmackets. March Madness IF Style!
March Madness is finally upon us! The NCAA basketball playoffs are in full swing. While it may seem hard to believe, we've been following the career of a collegiate superstar, the son of this lovely lady Jacqueline Cruz-Towns. Have you guessed who? Yes!!! Jackie's son is none other than number one-ranked Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns. He wears the number 12 on his jersey and on Tuesday, just earned Freshman All American honors from the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
We met Karl-Anthony and his mom at an event last March at the Classic Car Club (CCC) of Manhattan for Luca Forgeois, a young man from Long Island who aspires to be an Indy Car driver. To read about the March 19, 2014 event click here.
At that time, Jackie's son was an 18 year old local basketball phenom who was planning to attend the University of Kentucky and play for the Wildcats this past fall.
Karl was born in the Dominican Republic and at the age of 16, played basketball for the Dominican Republic's Olympic Team. As a New Jersey high schooler, Karl was the state's Gatorade Player of the Year in 2013. According to the 2013 Nike Big Man Skills Academy, Karl was 6'11.5" tall and had a wingspan of 7'3.5" and weighed 235 pounds. ESPN now lists his weight at 250 pounds. Posing here with Jean and another guest, Edward Macomb, Karl dwarfed everyone in the room. And he is an absolute sweetheart. To see him in action, click here.
Not known for athletic prowess ourselves, we do like to recognize and celebrate it in others. Click here to get the official scoop on the Kentucky Wildcats team and on our man Karl-Anthony!
Of course, we just have to close with a shot of his fabulous basketball bling! His championship rings are hard to miss. We're keeping our fingers crossed that he and his team can GO ALL THE WAY!
He is a phenom indeed! Wonderful pictures.
